French Modern & French Ballet
|
French Modern strives to embrace and bring to light modern French culture as unique from the world. Through integration of a variety of french dance styles, French Modern brings together a group of Stantonians in an effort to share French culture in a way that textbooks cannot. Above all, French modern is a diverse family, part of a larger extended Multi family, that simply aspires to learn, have fun, and get a little bit of exercise.
Ballet is a globally influential art form that was popularized by the French King Louis XIV, and he founded the first professional ballet company, the Paris Opera Ballet. Today, it is a highly technical form of concert dance taught around the world, and has been evolved by many different cultures. The French Ballet group focuses on the universal, classical ballet foundation that originated in France. This year, the group will be incorporating contemporary dance elements into its performance to step past the boundaries of purely classical technique, and we'll be exploring more energetic, modern movement.

Irish
|
Irish dance focuses on what you can do with your feet. In traditional Irish dancing, arms were kept at the sides unless interacting with another dancer. Through modernization, however, Irish dance has evolved and now uses the arms more. Shows such as River-dance and Lord of the Dance have made Irish dance more popular worldwide and have changed the style of Irish dance into something more modern. While there are still many traditional elements to Irish dance today, the use of arms and the music used are examples of elements that have changed with the times as a result of the globalization of Irish dance.
